Note:  Forced to flee Hindustan during the Afghan resurgence led by Sher Shah Suri, Humayun sought refuge with Tahmasp Safavi, the king of Iran. Qandahar, occupied by his rebellious brother Kamran, was conquered by Humayun nominally on behalf of Tahmasp. This conquest provided Humayun with a crucial strategic foothold to initiate his re-conquest of Hindustan. The coin, struck to the local standard exclusive to Qandahar, displays only the first letter "Qaf" on this specimen.
